Michigan-Minnesota Preview (The Associated Press)

(AP) — — Trey Burke and Michigan can put aside for now the idea of being ranked No. 1 in the country. An undefeated start to the season? That’s over too after the Wolverines sputtered last weekend at Ohio State. Now, the focus is on a Big Ten schedule that will test Burke and his teammates plenty more over the next few weeks. No. 5 Michigan plays at No. 9 Minnesota on Thursday night, part of a nine-game stretch for the Wolverines that began with the loss to the Buckeyes and will eventually include six road games. “The level of intensity that we had in practice (Tuesday) was very high,” said Burke, Michigan’s star point guard. “We know just from watching film that we had a lot to learn, a lot to get better, a lot of adjustments to make.” The Wolverines (16-1, 3-1) were uncharacteristically sloppy at the start of Sunday’s game at Ohio State, falling behind by 21 points in the first half before rallying to force a tense finish. The Buckeyes eventually …

Ohio State Basketball: Report Card Grades for the Win over Michigan

Apparently gravity took the day off Sunday in Columbus, because Trey Burke’s go-ahead three-point attempt with 17 seconds remaining was three-fourths of the way down before rimming out, virtually ending Michigan’s hope at…

No one’s perfect: Michigan’s loss underlines difficulty in going undefeated in modern era (Yahoo! Sports)

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The difference between perfect record and first loss may have been a fickle fraction of an inch, as Michigan guard Trey Burke’s step-back 3-pointer just jiggled out with 17 seconds left Sunday. Aaron Craft stays close to Michigan’s Trey Burke during the second half. (AP) “I’m not going to lie,” said Ohio State’s Aaron Craft, who was guarding Burke on the play. “I thought it was going in when I turned around.” It didn’t, and the Buckeyes won, 56-53. In the process they denied their hated rivals a chance to be No. 1 in the rankings Monday, and also ended the annual Unbeaten Watch in college basketball. Arizona (14-0) was taken down last Thursday at Oregon. Duke (15-0) lost Saturday at North Carolina State. That left the Wolverines (16-0) as the last unbeaten standing, and they didn’t stand long Sunday. Michigan fell behind 4-3 and never led again, despite mounting a valiant comeback after a first-half meltdown. It was an…

Ohio State 56, Michigan 53

COLUMBUS, Ohio — Trey Burke stared up at the scoreboard, his hands over his head. He couldn’t believe it hadn’t gone in. The shot had felt so good. It had looked even better. But Burke’s go-ahead 3-pointer rattled in and out as No. 2-ranked Michigan fell 56-53 at Ohio State on Sunday.

Ohio State or Michigan: Which Squad Is More Dangerous?

On the surface asking which NCAAM’s team, Ohio State or Michigan, is more dangerous seems like a painfully obvious exercise. One team, the Wolverines, is undefeated and arguably the best squad in the…

Ohio State vs. Michigan: Buckeyes’ Bulletproof Plan to Stop Trey Burke

There is not a lot of optimism surrounding the Ohio State basketball program after the beatdown Illinois treated the Buckeyes to Saturday. The fanbase has become disillusioned, the players are frustrated and the…

Zeller near unanimous preseason pick (The Associated Press)

The biggest man on The Associated Press’ preseason All-America team got the most votes. Seven-foot sophomore center Cody Zeller , the main reason Indiana is the preseason No. 1 for the first time in 33 years, was one vote shy of being a unanimous selection for the preseason All-America team.

Indiana picked as Big Ten favorite in basketball

ROSEMONT, Ill. (AP) — Indiana was chosen as the top team in the Big Ten and the Hoosiers’ Cody Zeller was selected as the Preseason Player of the Year in a vote by conference media. With all five starters back from a team that went 27-9 and reached the Sweet 16, expectations are soaring for the Hoosiers. A big reason for that is the 6-foot-11 Zeller, who averaged 15.6 points and 6.6 rebounds as a freshman last season. He was a unanimous pick for the preseason all-conference team, with Michigan’s Trey Burke , Ohio State’s Aaron Craft and Deshaun Thomas , and Penn State’s Tim Frazier also making it. Michigan and Ohio State were picked to finish second and third, respectively, after sharing the regular-season title with Michigan State last season.
