How much better will Ohio State football’s run defense need to be against Wisconsin?


COLUMBUS, Ohio — Ohio State only gave up 199 yards in its 52-3 win over Northwestern on Friday night, but the majority of that came on the ground. The Wildcats ran for 157 yards, which trails only Nebraska’s 184 for the most the Buckeyes have given up this season. The only allowed 3.3 yards per carry, but that didn’t keep the coaching staff from voicing that they’ll need to be much better against Wisconsin. “I don’t care if they rush for 60 attempts we have goals,” co-defensive coordinator Greg Mattison said. “I’m not going to say what those goals are because I don’t want it on somebody’s bulletin board, but I do know that the backbone of any great defense is stopping the run.” The Badgers live and die by the run with Jonathan Taylor being a legitimate Heisman Trophy candidate this season.
