SCOTTSDALE, Arizona — It began with a conversation the last time Ohio State football played in the Fiesta Bowl — three freshman receivers trying to look into their own futures. K.J. Hill, Austin Mack and Binjimen Victor had little impact on the Buckeyes’ 31-0 loss to Clemson in the 2016 College Football Playoff semifinals. They knew they had only begun their careers, and if Ohio State were to return to the national championship picture, they could be a big reason why. “After that game, we talked, and it was like we really couldn’t do anything in that game,” Hill said. “We weren’t those guys. We weren’t the top guys in the room. “Now it’s our time. That’s one of the reasons I came back to school.
