Willie Davis, Hall of Famer for Browns and grandfather of Ohio State football’s Wyatt Davis, dies at 85


CANTON, Ohio — Willie Davis, who began his NFL career with the Cleveland Browns before emerging as an all-time great with the Green Bay Packers, died Wednesday at the age of 85. Davis is the grandfather of current Buckeyes offensive guard Wyatt Davis. He was elected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame, which announced his death, in 1981. He as also inducted to the Black College Football Hall of Fame in 2011, for recognition of his career at Grambling State. The Browns drafted Davis in the 15th round of the 1956 draft, though his career did not begin until he completed his military service in 1958. Davis’ career took off after his trade to Green Bay in 1960.
