
COLUMBUS, Ohio — The Ohio State basketball program has experienced significant turnover in its backcourt since the abrupt end of the season. That started when freshman D.J. Carton walked away from the program after 20 games to work on his mental health. He’d finish up the semester, returning to Ohio State’s campus as a student but never coming back to the program. He announced Wednesday night that he’d transfer to Marquette. Carton’s departure was expected, but Luther Muhammad’s decision not as much. The sophomore guard — who’s headed to Arizona State — had started in 56 of 64 games for the Buckeyes, averaging 7.3 points. He served as the Buckeyes’ best perimeter defender, taking on the task of guarding players such as Michigan State’s Cassius Winston, Maryland’s Anthony Cowan Jr. and Illinois’ Ayo Dosunmu.
