
COLUMBUS, Ohio — With the 24th pick in the first round of 1991 NFL Draft, the Los Angeles Raiders selected USC quarterback Todd Marinovich. Trained by his father to become the perfect quarterback prospect, Marinovich went from curiosity to magazine cover boy to NFL bust to cautionary tale. He was also the 52nd USC player to be taken in the first round of the NFL Draft, a product of a football factory that had cranked out more first-rounders than any other college program. At that point, USC peaked in its lead over Ohio State in first-round players. An Ohio State lull in the ’80s in first-round talent saw the Buckeyes fall far behind the Trojans.
