With Tommy Togiai off to the Browns, Ohio State football needs multiple bodies to replace one nose


COLUMBUS, Ohio — A year ago at this time, Ohio State needed a new starting nose tackle after DaVon Hamilton began his NFL career. A year ago, the Buckeyes also had an obvious successor. Tommy Togiai made the most of his lone season atop the depth chart, shoving opposing linemen into the backfield before making his own jump to the pros. Togiai was a natural nose — stout and strong and able to not only take on double team but repel them. As cliche as it sounds, it was the position he was born to play. Ohio State defensive line coach Larry Johnson said his preference would be to find another big body. Someone who could “knock the line of scrimmage back” and physically impose his will on opponents.
