Ohio Stadium to host Historically Black Colleges

For the first time since 1995, a college football game not involving the Ohio State Buckeyes will be played in Ohio Stadium. © Doral Chenoweth/Columbus Dispatch Ohio Stadium On Aug. 28, a pair of Historically Black Colleges and Universities, Central State and Kentucky State, will face off at Ohio Stadium in the Classic for Columbus. The game is the centerpiece of a four-day multicultural program in Downtown from Aug. 25-29 that includes a jamboree festival and a battle of the bands competition, as well as college and career fairs. The game is a staple of HBCU college football history in Ohio and began in the early 1990s, first being played in Cooper Stadium in Columbus, where it was held until 1996. It then  rotated between Cleveland and Cincinnati until 2005 and was renamed the “Ohio Classic” during that span.  The event was also previously planned to be played at Historic Crew Stadium.
