Ohio State is hiring Oklahoma State’s Jim Knowles as its next defensive coordinator. In a statement released Tuesday night, coach Ryan Day said Knowles will take over as defensive coordinator on Jan. 2. The Buckeyes will continue with their current staff of assistant coaches through the Rose Bowl on Jan. 1. “What is most important at this time is that we put our players in the best position possible to finish this season with a win in the Rose Bowl,” Day said. Ohio State’s new defensive coordinator Jim Knowles led an Oklahoma State program ranked No. 3 in the FBS in total defense and No. 7 in scoring defense this season.
