COLUMBUS, Ohio — Ohio State football’s five-star 2023 safety commit Sonny Styles is skipping his senior season of high school football to join the Buckeyes. The five-star recruit is rated as the nation’s No. 6 player and top safety. He committed to the Buckeyes just hours before they beat Purdue 59-31 at home. Styles is the second OSU commit in the last six months to reclassify and get a headstart on his college career. Quarterback Quinn Ewers did so going from the 2022 class to 2021, but then only spent four months in the program before entering the transfer portal. That is a different situation for Styles, since he plays a position where more than one person can play.
