What Xavier Nwankpa commitment to Iowa means for Ohio State football: Buckeyes Recruiting


COLUMBUS, Ohio — Xavier Nwankpa of Southeast Polk High School in Iowa has elected to stay home as he’s committed to the Hawkeyes meaning Ohio State football could miss on its final two defensive back targets in the 2022 class. The Buckeyes have been perceived as the leader in the recruitment of the nation’s No. 42 player and No. 5 safety for months. But the Hawkeyes slowly chipped away at that lead and created enough momentum that they could capitalize on. Nwankpa is the eighth top 100 recruit from Iowa since 2000. But he’s the first of that group to pick the Hawkeyes since offensive tackle Blake Larsen in 2001. He chose them out of a top-three that also included OSU and Notre Dame.
