COLUMBUS, Ohio — Xavier Nwankpa of Southeast Polk High School in Iowa has elected to stay home as he’s committed to the Hawkeyes. As a result, Ohio State could miss on its final two defensive back targets in the 2022 class. The Buckeyes have been perceived as the leader for Nwankpa — the nation’s No. 42 player and No. 5 safety — for months. Nwankpa is the eighth top-100 recruit from Iowa since 2000. But he’s the first of that group to pick the Hawkeyes since offensive tackle Blake Larsen in 2001. He chose them out of a top three that also included OSU and Notre Dame.
