C.J. Stroud will try to become the first Heisman Trophy winner to hail from Ohio State since Troy Smith in 2006 on Saturday in New York City, where the prestigious award will be given for the 87th time. Stroud, a redshirt freshman, is one of four finalists for the award. He joins seniors Kenny Pickett (Pittsburgh), Aidan Hutchinson (Michigan) and sophomore Bryce Young (Alabama). If Stroud wins he’ll be the eighth Heisman winner and seventh Buckeye (Archie Griffin won twice in 1974 and 1975) to win the award. He is the first Heisman finalist since Justin Fields in 2019, who finished third in the voting, and is the third quarterback to be a finalist since 2018, when Dwayne Haskins also finished third.
