COLUMBUS, Ohio — It took Jayden Fielding until his first field goal, a 40-yard attempt at the end of the first half, to finally feel comfortable. Fielding (pronounced fielding, like baseball), connected on all three of his field goal attempts in the Buckeyes 23-3 win over Indiana in Week 1. And for all the worry about the quarterback, offensive line and a host of other problems that has the fanbase worried, the kicker did not provide any cause for concern. If anything, he was a sign of comfort. He kicked off six times and had three touchbacks, and more importantly, went three-for-three on his field goals of 40, 22 and 22 yards. The afternoon was something he’d been after since he joined the Buckeyes as a walk-on, betting on himself to prove that he belonged as the starting kicker at a program like Ohio State.
