Tressel reportedly encouraged to resign

Some details are beginning to emerge about Jim Tressel’s decision to step down as Ohio State’s coach.

Sources tell The Columbus Dispatch that Tressel was encouraged to resign. Tressel reportedly flew back Sunday night to Columbus from Florida, where he was vacationing, and met with school officials.

The Dispatch obtained a memo Ohio State president E. Gordon Gee sent to the school’s Board of Trustees on Monday:
“I write to let you know that later this morning we will be announcing the resignation of Jim Tressel as head coach of the University’s football program.
