Dear Coach Fickell, Why Has Jordan Hall Been Named Captain?

Jordan Hall, who started the season with a two-game suspension for freceiving improper benefits, has been named a Captain for Saturday's game against Michigan State. The move raises one question - Why?

News broke today that Jordan Hall, who was suspended two games to start the season, has been named a team captain against the Michigan State Spartans on Saturday.

My question is, why Coach Fickell? Why?

After all the scrutiny the Ohio State football program has been under for the last 9 months, you’re awarding a player, Jordan Hall, who once again put the team in the negative spotlight, by naming him Captain on Saturday?

Yes, I know, he had a great game against Colorado, but so what? Surely, you don’t condone receiving improper benefits, but naming Hall a Captain certainly looks that way. Under Coach Tress, Pryor, Herron and Posey may have all been named captains, do you think he would’ve done so after everything they put the program through? I think not.

There are a number of other players, freshman even, that are more deserving of captain status than Hall. What about Devin Smith? Braxton Miller, even. No, a freshman shouldn’t be named a captain as they haven’t put in the time and dedication the upperclassmen have, but neither should a player who’s coming off a suspension for receiving improper benefits.

Tyler Moeller, Johnathan Hankins, Etienno Sabino, Andrew Norwell, J.B. Shugarts – the list of guys more deserving than Hall goes on and on.

I applauded you last week for finally naming Braxton Miller the starter at QB, but this, this is unacceptable. Keep in mind, Coach Fickell, that the football team is still under the NCAA’s watchful eye, and could very well view this as a “slap in the face”. I sure as hell hope you’re know what you’re doing, because right now, it’s hard to believe that you do.

Nonetheless, Go Bucks! Beat the Spartans!
