Stupid Comment Of The Day: Gordon Gee

Gordon Gee is really bringing some unwanted attention to the Ohio State University. In front of an annual address to the faculty, Gee said Ohio State is the “poster child for compliance”. Gee’s reasoning is no matter how minor the infractions, Ohio State reports them to the NCAA.

Really?

So basically what your saying is, “We suck at following the rules”, But we’re sure good at “admitting we suck”…

Maybe with his 1.6 million in annual compensation, he could hire a PR person to help protect him from his infamous mouth farts. His recent mouth farts include “I just hope Tressel doesn’t fire me”. Or, giving TCU poster material by the “Little sisters of the poor comment”. Gee later said forgive me because “I don’t know much about the X’s and O’s of football”. That is apparent.

I understand his motivation in brown-nosing the NCAA. Most people don’t get in his respective position without being a little bit of a brown-noser. But do you really think the NCAA is sitting back saying, “Wow, Ohio State sure is great at calling us and reporting these issues”. No, they are saying, “is this a failure to monitor on the Universities part”. Or, “Is there a lack of institutional control here”. Those issues could re-surface due to the new suspensions.

It seems to me at least, the wise course of action would be to stick to reporting the successes of the University. Not bringing more attention to its obvious failures. Sometimes it is wise to not even say anything at all. But, I understand his reason for saying this. Of course, I don’t think it will work. It may just make the NCAA even more irritated because they are using their time, money, and human resources to investigate your Universities failures. And we all know how the NCAA hates losing money.

Eventually someone besides Tressel will have to fall on his proverbial sword. Gene Smith would be a great person to fill that role. Or, if Gordon Gee continues to make his mis-calculated comments, it might be his head OSU fans eventually call for.
