Ohio State Football: Undrafted Buckeyes Brewster, Sweat, and Shugarts Signed

Although Mike Brewster, Andrew Sweat and J.B. Shugarts had to endure the painful process of patiently watching the NFL Draft while they were passed up repetitively, things turned out well in the end. Only Brewster was projected to be drafted, but I’m sure they’re all completely happy with the way things turned out.

At one time, Brewster was projected as the top center in this draft but after a rough senior season, he slid all the way out of the event. Nonetheless, the former Buckeye was signed shortly after the draft to his hometown team, the Jacksonville Jaguars. The Florida native will bring some depth to the Jaguars line initially and could become a starter sometime in the future. His signing is considered one of the best pick-ups in the undrafted free-agent market.

As for Andrew Sweat and J.B. Shugarts, neither expected to be drafted but have to be thrilled to stay in the great state of Ohio and play for the Cleveland Browns.

Despite being accepted into several law schools, Sweat seems determined to make it at the next level. Right now, Sweat will add depth to the Browns at all linebacker positions and will have to really prove himself in order to see the field anytime soon.

Same goes for Shugarts, who was most likely picked up simply to please the hometown fans and fill out the depth chart. However, the NFL is the NFL, and by making the league, they have surely done Buckeye Nation proud.

Brewster is easily one of the biggest steals among the other undrafted free agents, and it will be very interesting to see if Sweat or Shugarts can exceed expectations in Cleveland. But for now, these three should certainly celebrate this solid accomplishment.
