Ohio State Football 2012: Analysis of Game 1 vs. Miami of Ohio

Week 1 of Ohio State football is in the record books, and the result was a 56-10 victory over Miami of Ohio. Although it seemed before the game that the Urban Meyer hype had subsided a bit, he and his coaching staff quickly re-ignited the passion of Buckeye fans with their team’s performance on Saturday.
Ohio State’s hurry-up offense confused the Redhawks, and quarterback Braxton Miller showcased his versatility, making quality decisions and finishing as the Buckeyes’ leading passer and rusher, with 207 and 161 yards, respectively.
Other highlights for Ohio State were WR Devin Smith’s one-handed touchdown catch and the determined running from Carlos Hyde, Zack Boren and Bri’onte Dunn that led to rushing touchdowns.
Ohio State should gain a lot of confidence from this showing. Although the pass defense could have been a bit more solid, especially in the first half, cornerback Travis Howard did intercept two passes.
Overall, I’d give the team a grade of B-.
