If you are a fan of college football and you’ve had the opportunity to check out the latest BCS Poll, you are likely not surprised that despite being undefeated, Ohio State isn’t on it.
During the 2011 season the hearts of Ohioans from Cincinnati to Columbus to Cleveland were crushed when it became clear that not only did a handful of Buckeye football players break the rules by receiving cash and gifts, but head coach Jim Tressel had been made aware of this and chose to do nothing.
The NCAA was not pleased, and leveled a staggering blow against Ohio State and incoming head coach Urban Meyer – among other penalties, the Buckeyes would be banned from participating in a bowl game in the upcoming season.
It seems unfair that when infractions are committed by individuals, the NCAA penalizes not only the entire team but also the school and thousands of fans that who pour countless dollars into the sport. But whether or not you agree with the bowl ban against the Ohio State Buckeyes, it is hard to miss that this may very well come back to haunt the NCAA, and BCS, in January.
