Another Saturday, another productive day for Braxton Miller. The Buckeye’s field general threw for 143 yards, a touchdown along with 134 yards, two touchdowns on the ground and he completely took over the game when necessary.
Anytime the Buckeyes needed a big play, Miller came through for his team just like he has every week this season. The sophomore accounts for more than 70 percent of the Buckeyes offense and is the biggest reason OSU remains undefeated.
Through nine games, Miller has scored 24 total touchdowns with just five interceptions. He’s the first Buckeye quarterback to ever rush for 1,000 yards in one season and is steadily improving as a passer.
But what really makes Miller a serious Heisman contender can’t be found in the box score.
I have two reasons why Miller should win the Heisman. One, his exciting style of play and two, his ability to make plays in the clutch.
The Heisman trophy is supposed to go out to “the most outstanding player in college football” each year and it’s hard not to say that it’s Miller. Each week, Miller pulls off a ridiculously long run, a broken play that he turns into a great play and a key play that leads his team to victory.
He’s the most elusive runner in the nation and his highlight reel runs will continue to boost his Heisman hype. Flat out, he’s the most exciting player in the nation. If you don’t believe me, just take a look at his sophomore highlights thus far.
On top of his exciting style of play, Miller has consistently come up in the clutch. He accounts for almost all of the Buckeye’s offense and has never failed to deliver in the biggest parts of the game. Ohio State is 9-0 for the first time since 2007, and this would not be the case without Miller.
His solid game today has kept him in the Heisman race, and if he can pull off big wins over Wisconsin and arch-rival Michigan, he very well might run away with the trophy. He touches the ball on every play, so, if the Buckeyes finish the season undefeated, it will be due in large part to Miller, which will only increase his chances at the trophy.
