Ohio State in Season Openers
The Buckeyes are 91-18 in home openers and 87-22 in season openers all-time. Thad Matta is 8-0 in season openers at Ohio State. The game date vs. Marquette is tied for the second earliest start to a men’s basketball season in OSU history. The Buckeyes opened the 2004-05 season, Thad Matta’s first in Columbus, Nov. 5, a 74-53 win at Value City Arena. Ohio State began the 2009-10 season Nov. 9 vs. Alcorn State at VCA. The Buckeyes won that game 100-60.

Craft Family Represented this Weekend
The Craft Family has an appreciation for the U.S. Military above and beyond most of those participating in the 2012 Carrier Classic this weekend. As Ohio State junior Aaron Craft, a member of the men’s basketball team, and his sister Cait Craft, a senior in high school, were finishing up their respective basketball seasons last March 24, their older brother Brandon was being deployed to Afghanistan as a U.S. Army Infantryman. Brandon began his mission at almost the same time the Buckeyes tipped off in the 2012 East Regional Final vs. Syracuse in Boston. Cait later signed up to play for the Ohio State women’s team and both she and Aaron will experience at the 2012 Carrier Classic together. The Buckeyes take on Notre Dame (4 p.m.) in the women’s game while the men’s team faces Marquette (7 p.m.) Friday.

Thomas Selected AP All-American
The Associated Press announced its preseason first team All-America selections Oct. 29 with Ohio State junior Deshaun Thomas among the six honorees. A pair of other Big Ten players also were selected. Indiana’s Cody Zeller and Michigan’s Trey Burke also were named by a panel of 65 voters from across the country. Ohio State junior Aaron Craft also received votes for first-team All-America consideration.

The Marquette Series
The Golden Eagles and Ohio State have met nine times over the history of the series. The Buckeyes have won five games in the series with Marquette winning three of the last four. The teams have not met since Nov. 30, 1994, an 82-70 win for the Golden Eagles in Columbus. Ohio State last won in a neutral site meeting during the 1970 NCAA Tournament in Athens, Ga. The Buckeyes, ranked No. 10 nationally, topped the No. 2 ranked Golden Eagles 60-59 in the NCAA Mideast Regional. That game also marked the only time either of the teams were ranked in the series. The Buckeyes enter the game this year ranked No. 4 nationally.
