The Big Ten announced its all-conference first and second teams and a host of individual honors Monday night, and there were a number of Buckeyes football players recognized for their efforts on the field this year.
Others, though, were snubbed.
Individual Awards
Quarterback Braxton Miller was named the Griese-Brees Quarterback of the Year after totaling 3,310 yards and 28 touchdowns during the 2012 season. Miller edged Nebraska’s Taylor Martinez, who totaled 3,316 yards and 29 touchdowns this year.
Defensive end John Simon was named the Smith-Brown Defensive Lineman of the Year after racking up 45 tackles, 14.5 tackles for loss and a conference-leading nine sacks in 2012. Simon battled through a multitude of injuries throughout the year, and even missed Ohio State’s season finale against Michigan Saturday, but his outstanding play through 11 games held off Penn State defensive lineman Jordan Hill for the award.
