Miami commit on turning away Meyer: ‘It looked like he was a baby about to cry’ (NBC Sports)

Oh, yeah. This is going to go over well.

Miami landed one of the top offensive lineman recruits for the 2014 class last month with the verbal pledge of Kc McDermott. It was a big pickup for the Canes, as McDermott also reportedly had scholarship offers from Alabama, Notre Dame and Ohio State, among others. But McDermott, a lifelong Miami fan, wasn’t interested in the Buckeyes and his feelings didn’t change when Meyer came to his school to see McDermott face to face.

But McDermott’s account of his interaction with Meyer is… well… it’s something! After telling Meyer he wasn’t interested in Ohio State, McDermott said the coach was shocked, as if he’d “never been told no in his life.” McDermott went on to say Meyer “looked like he was a baby about to cry. It was so funny.”

From his interview with Bleacher Report:

AK: What’s the Urban Meyer story?

KM: The Urban Meyer thing was just funny to me. He came to my school a week after I told his assistant that I wasn’t even interested in them. I told him no to his face, and it’s got to be one of the top five reactions of someone ever. His facial expression was just so funny. My coach was tearing up and had to go in his office to laugh.

AK: Talk more about coach Meyer’s face when you told him no. Was he mad, upset?

KM: More like the state of shock where the guy has literally never been told no in his life. It literally looked like a kid the first time you tell him ‘no, you can’t do something.’ It looked like he was a baby about to cry. It was so funny.

  1. Classless punk-you can have him Miami
Has lot of respect for a two time national championship coach. Think before you talk..

  2. Well guess what KC, Urban will have the last laugh. You will be stuck in a program that is going nowhere. Good luck watching Urban dominate college football for the next 5-7 years while you flounder in a program with a bunch of nobody’s.

  3. It is sad that a college such as TOSU makes an offer to a young kid that has no respect for someone as Urban. It doesn’t matter that he chooses Miami or OSU it’s just the fact there was no respect at all for the Urban to come to your school, give you an offer then laugh because you were able to tell him “NO”. Urban has been told no many times and I am sure he can handle it as a professional as he has many times before. I just think it is time to grow up and be a young man and not be so disrespectful. Really sad!!!
