Ohio State Men’s Basketball Opens 2013-14 Season Nov. 9

COLUMBUS, Ohio — Thad Matta, head coach of the Buckeyes, announced the non-conference portion of the 2013-14 men’s basketball season Monday. The 18-game Big Ten Conference schedule will be released later this summer.

Highlighting the non-league schedule will be home games vs. future Big Ten opponent Maryland and Ohio University along with a neutral site game vs. Notre Dame Dec. 21 at Madison Square Garden in New York and a road game vs. Marquette Nov. 16. The game vs. the Golden Eagles starts a home-and-home series. Marquette will travel to Ohio State in 2014-15.

Maryland, the alma mater of Ohio State assistant coach Dave Dickerson, will join the Big Ten starting in 2014-15.

Ohio State and Marquette were scheduled to open the 2013-14 season on the USS Yorktown in the 2013 Carrier Classic in Mount Pleasant, S.C. The game was cancelled when condensation on the court made conditions unplayable.

The game vs. the Irish is part of the 2013 Gotham Classic. The Buckeyes will play home games vs. Bryant, North Dakota State and Delaware in the event before taking on Notre Dame.

The 2013-14 season begins Nov. 9 vs. Morgan State followed by the intrastate contest vs. the Bobcats Nov. 12. The Buckeyes are 17-4 all-time vs. Ohio University, the alma mater of Ohio State assistant coach Jeff Boals.

Ohio State will play four Big Ten teams once this season. Ohio State will travel to Indiana an Wisconsin and will play host to Michigan and Northwestern in single plays. The Buckeyes will play the remaining seven league schools both home and away.

Once the conference schedule is announced, the final non-confererence date will be finalized. Ohio State will play Louisiana-Monroe either Dec. 27 or 28.

Game times with television designation will be announced later this summer.
