Ohio State All-American Bradley Roby’s misdemeanor charge was changed on Friday to a less serious charge, meaning that one of the best cornerbacks in the nation might not miss any games.
The charge stems from an incident on July 21 outside a bar in Bloomington, Ind., where Roby is accused of striking a security guard.
Roby has not missed any practices while police and Ohio State officials have investigated the incident. Buckeyes coach Urban Meyer said he is waiting for the investigation to conclude before deciding what, if any, punishment he will mete out, the Columbus Dispatch reported. Meyer has indicated a suspension was likely, but that was before Friday when the charges were changed.
Roby had been projected as a first-round pick in last year’s draft but came back to Columbus to help the Buckeyes build on their perfect 2012 season — a season where Ohio State was ineligible for a bowl bid.
In two seasons with the Buckeyes, Roby has started all 25 games. In 2012, he compiled 62 tackles, 17 passes broken up and two interceptions.
Roby still has a pretrial conference slated for Aug. 26.
