The Ohio State Buckeyes have now won 13 straight football games, the longest active streak in college football, and are ranked No. 2 in the country. All should be right in Columbus then.
But, if you’ve been paying attention during this winning streak, you’ve probably found yourself asking this question: How haven’t they lost a game yet?
After all, they struggled with Cal, UAB, Indiana, Wisconsin and a few others along the way last year. Yet, here we sit heading into Week 2 of the 2013 season, and Ohio State has managed to take everyone’s best punches and come out on top.
For Urban Meyer’s bunch, this season was all about turning to a fresh page. Ohio State is once again eligible for the postseason after missing out last year, Braxton Miller is a Heisman Trophy frontrunner and they have a reputation as a winner to uphold.
So, while Ohio State took care of the Buffalo Bulls 40-20 on Saturday, a closer examination of that game reveals a pattern we saw all too often last year and that is a team that can be beat.
The 20-point victory margin over the Bulls wasn’t nearly as comfortable as it would seem.
Ohio State went up 16-0 early on in the first quarter and it appeared the rout would be on. Especially following back-to-back two-point conversions following those opening touchdowns.
After one quarter of action it was 23-0 Ohio State.
