September, 22, 2013 Sep 22 9:00 AM ET COLUMBUS, Ohio — A closer look at the standouts of Ohio State’s epic 76-0 blowout of Florida A&M on Saturday to wrap up nonconference play at home.
QB Kenny Guiton: The Buckeyes again needed their backup to take control of the offense with Braxton Miller ruled out with a knee sprain, and Guiton again played the part of a starting quarterback while barely placing a foot wrong. The redshirt senior set a school record with his sixth touchdown pass, with all of those scoring strikes coming in the first half in another prolific outing that was only slightly marred by an early interception.
CB Bradley Roby: For all the passes broken up a year ago, the junior cornerback wasn’t able to come up with many interceptions in the secondary on the way to first-team All-America honors. The Buckeyes hardly had reason to complain about it, but it certainly provided motivation for Roby throughout the offseason, and his first pick of the season should let him feel good, regardless of the level of competition. Roby had an inconsistent outing against California, but he appears to be rounding back into the form of the lockdown defender the Buckeyes expected when he elected to return for one more season.
TE Jeff Heuerman: The Buckeyes seemed to be making it an emphasis to get Heuerman involved in the passing game after he failed to make a catch at California, but never made a peep about his role as a blocker. Guiton rewarded the tall, athletic tight end with four early catches for 43 yards and a touchdown, and he still provided the same physical presence as a blocker when the Buckeyes focused on the ground game in an performance that figures to grade out quite well.
