Sophomore defensive back Devan Bogard will miss the remainder of the season because of an ACL injury. It’s the second time the promising defender has suffered this injury.
Head coach Urban Meyer made the announcement Monday during a news conference previewing this week’s matchup against Purdue, per Ozone Communications:
Crushing, indeed.
Bogard wasn’t much of a contributor this season, as he had just seven tackles and didn’t even play against Northwestern or Penn State. However, it’s always devastating to see a young man’s season come to an end because of such a brutal injury. When it happens twice in back-to-back seasons, you can’t help but feel bad for him.
He was a 4-star recruit out of Cleveland and was considered one of the hardest hitting safeties in the 2012 recruiting class. He had offers from every school imaginable, but decided to stay close to home by jumping on the Ohio State bandwagon.
Due to his 6’1″, 200-plus pound frame, Bogard had a promising future with the Buckeyes. He was comfortable playing close to the line and tackled just about anything in sight. A physical and aggressive defensive back, Bogard was one of many talented players who was considered the future of this program, and he brought a lot to the table.
After playing in seven games last season, his freshman year came to an end after an ACL tear. He worked hard to get back on the field and became a key contributor on special teams.
