Oregon, Ohio, clarifying its allegiance before championship

By – Associated Press – Monday, January 5, 2015 TOLEDO, Ohio (AP) – Before the Ohio State Buckeyes face Oregon in college football’s championship game next Monday, the Ohio city of Oregon hopes to distance itself from the Ducks. The Blade in Toledo (http://bit.ly/1BA1jqe ) reports a petition calling for the city to temporarily change its name was started by two men who don’t normally cheer for Ohio State. One is more into soccer; perhaps shockingly, the other roots for rival Michigan. Mayor Mike Seferian says the city plans to issue a proclamation declaring it distinct from the Buckeyes’ opponent, though he stopped short of committing to a temporary name change. The petition includes renaming suggestions such as Buckeye Town and Brutusville. One petitioner, Matt Squibb, says he wouldn’t be particular. In his words: “Call it ‘East East Toledo. Call it anything but ‘Oregon.’”
