NCAA WOMEN’S BASKETBALL: Hoosiers come up short at Ohio State

COLUMBUS, Ohio — Indiana hung tough on the road, but fell to Ohio State in Value City Arena 78-70 on Sunday. Five Hoosiers scored in double figures led be Karlee McBride’s 15 points off the bench. IU (13-10, 3-9) nailed 11 of 23 (48 percent) 3-point field goals in the game, but Ohio State (16-8, 8-4) scored 17 points off of Hoosiers turnovers and shot 49 percent overall. The Buckeyes scored five unanswered to start and built a 14-5 lead just over 5 minutes into the game. McBride drained a 3-pointer before back-to-back Jenn Anderson layups capped a 7-0 IU run to cut the lead to two, 14-12. Indiana later tied the game on an Alexis Gassion 3-point field goal and then took its first lead of the game with a trey from Mt. Carmel native Tyra Buss to make it a 21-20 Hoosier advantage at the 7:45 mark. A third straight 3-pointer from Larryn Brooks made it a 9-2 IU run and a 24-20 score. The teams battled back-and-forth before OSU took a 35-34 halftime lead. Out of the break, OSU outscored the Hoosiers 15-5 in the first 6:41 of the second half to take a 50-39 lead after a Kelsey Mitchell 3-point field goal at the 13:19 mark. …
