OSU's Russell among basketball award winners

Apr. 12, 2015 @ 12:01 AM The Associated Press LOS ANGELES – Ohio State men’s basketball player D’Angelo Russell was named Friday as the Jerry West Shooting Guard of the Year at the first College Basketball Awards presented at Club Nokia. The freshman led the Buckeyes into the NCAA tournament, where they lost to Arizona in the third round. West was on hand to give Russell his namesake award. n Montrezl Harrell of Louisville won the Karl Malone Power Forward of the Year award. He received the trophy from Malone. Harrell helped the Cardinals reach their fifth NCAA regional final in eight years, where they lost to Michigan State in overtime. He is headed to the NBA after three years in school. n Delon Wright of Utah won the Bob Cousy Point Guard of the Year award. Wright helped the Utes reach the final 16 of the NCAA tournament, where they lost to eventual national champion Duke. n Frank Kaminsky of national runner-up Wisconsin won the Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Center of the Year award. The senior nicknamed “Frank the Tank” also won the John R. Wooden Award as national player of the year. …
