The smell of corn dogs and the sound of cowbells and air horns fill the Boise air outside of Albertsons Stadium each game day. The fan base known as Bronco Nation begins to pile into the 36,000 seat stadium to get ready to cheer on their Boise State Football team. The anticipation and excitement is no different than that of a larger school. Bronco Stadium This is something that many fans around the country would disagree with however. Some claim that there is a difference between Boise State and other schools. Some claim that it is not only the football program that is not as passionate and talented as major programs, but also the fans. Boise State fans may not have as much knowledge of the history of their program as those of major programs such as Alabama, Oklahoma, Texas, and many others. This is not the problem that critics have with Boise State fans. The problem is simply that the true passion for the team is not long lasting and surely wasn’t always there. The argument is that this so called passion is felt throughout other schools and their fan bases and always has been. We can take a look at the bowl game for 2012 between the Ohio State Buckeyes and the Florida Gators. No we’re not talking about the National Championship or any major Bowl Game for that matter, yet we are simply talking about the Gator Bowl between two teams who were 6-6 that season. The attendance for that game was over 60,000 loud and proud fans. Regardless of record, they were there to cheer on their mediocre squads that season and to send off each senior class with style. Now look at the 2014 Mountain West Conference Championship that was played on the “Blue” between the hometown Broncos and the Fresno State Bulldogs. In a stadium that, as stated before seats roughly 36,000 people, in the first ever Mountain West Championship hosted by the Broncos, the fans were only able to fill in 26,000 of those seats.
