COLUMBUS, Ohio — As if hoping to go unnoticed, college football’s forgotten star emerged from his car outside the Ohio State football team’s practice complex wearing a camouflage T-shirt and shorts. Braxton Miller was running late and in a hurry. The rest of the Buckeyes’ small traveling party bound for the ESPY awards show in Los Angeles sat waiting in a minivan. Their commercial flight would take off in less than an hour. For Ohio State’s intensely media-shy quarterback, it was the perfect excuse to brush off a scheduled meeting with reporters. Except this was a different Miller. Before leaving, the former star whose self-imposed silence over the past year inspired wild speculation approached the cameras and smiled. “Where y’all been at?” he said. Rather than attempt to blend in, Miller was ready to reintroduce himself. A week after confirming the status quo — that he will return to Ohio State for his fifth season — the former two-time Big Ten MVP said he welcomes the quarterback competition that will hog almost all attention during fall camp.
