Prep Football: Leipsic’s Cupp verbals to OSU

Cupp LEIPSIC — Leipsic’s Gavin Cupp took a risk by taking part in the Friday Night Lights camp at Ohio State University on July 24. But the rewards would seem to be well worth it.Cupp made a verbal commitment to Michigan State last May, but that scholarship was withdrawn when the school learned Cupp had taken part in Friday Night Lights, despite the offensive tackle’s claims that he always intended to honor his commitment to MSU and was taking part in the event to test himself and “compete against the best.”Cupp, 6-foot-5½ and 285 pounds, impressed the Ohio State staff, though, and was offered a scholarship by the Buckeyes. On his twitter account @gavin_cupp, Cupp on Tuesday acknowledged making a verbal commitment to accept that offer.“I would like to thank everyone that supported me throughout my recruitment process,” Cupp wrote. “With that being said I would like to announce my commitment to THE Ohio State University to further my education and athletic career.”Considered a three-star recruit, Cupp was ranked No. 12 in Ohio and No. 28 nationally among offensive tackles by Rivals.com in the graduating class of 2016. Another service, 247Sports, rated Cupp No. 22 in the state and 56th nationally.Cupp is the 20th player overall and fourth offensive linemen from the class of 2016 to verbally commit to Ohio State.
