Ohio State on cover of Sports Illustrated college football preview edition

This should come as no surprise to fans of ‘Buckeye Nation’ but the reigning College Football Playoff National Champions and the preseason number one team in the country, the Ohio State Buckeyes are on the cover of Sports Illustrated’s college football preview edition. Courtesy: Sports Illustrated/si.com Let’s just hope the infamous Sports Illustrated cover jinx doesn’t strike the scarlet and gray like it clearly has for one other sports team in the state of Ohio, the Cleveland Indians. Ohio State is one of four teams that will be on the front of the college football preview editions based on region. The other three teams are the Notre Dame Fighting Irish, Texas Christian University Horned Frogs and the Mississippi State Bulldogs. The Ohio State cover features reigning Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year Joey Bosa, who is one of four Buckeyes suspended for the season opener at Virginia Tech on September 7. Joining Bosa are fellow silver bullet defender Joshua Perry, team mascot Brutus Buckeye and the College Football Playoff National Championship trophy. This is the second time in 2015 the Ohio State football team graced the cover of Sports Illustrated. Of course the previous time was after head coach Urban Meyer and his Buckeyes beat Oregon to win the inaugural College Football Playoff National Championship at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas back in January. Ohio State was last on the cover of the college football preview edition of Sports Illustrated in 2013. Braxton Miller was on the cover that year as one of the six regional editions of the magazine.
