Terrelle Pryor: ‘It was a blessing’ to return to Ohio State

Despite the scandal that swirled around him while he was at Ohio State, Terrelle Pryor received a warm welcome when he visited his alma mater for a Browns preseason scrimmage Friday. “It was a blessing,” the Browns wide receiver told ESPN. “I had a chance to talk to a lot of people I know, and I had a chance to meet a great coach in Urban Meyer. I also got to step on the field a little bit and run around, so I had a good day. I love this place.” MORE: Top 10 all-time Buckeyes | NFL players who switched positions Even with a sore hamstring, Pryor was able to show off his old quarterback skills by tossing a few balls during wideout practice. He also talked to Urban Meyer about the Buckeyes’ quarterback situation with J.T. Barrett and Cardale Jones battling for the starting position. Pryor was previously banned from Ohio State when he didn’t cooperate with the NCAA’s 2011 investigation of the program, which reportedly gave improper benefits to players, including Pryor. The investigation led to a bowl ban, scholarship losses, vacated wins and the end of Pryor’s time at Ohio State, along with Hall of Fame coach Jim Tressel.  However, Ohio State has agreed to lift the ban restricting its former quarterback from being able to work out on the campus starting next year. The only reason Pryor was allowed to return for Friday’s scrimmage was because it wasn’t a school-sanctioned event. With the ban nearing its end, Pryor made it clear he would love to return to practice at Ohio State, as long as Meyer would have him.
