Former Ohio State coach Earle Bruce recovering from stroke

Former Ohio State coach Earle Bruce is recovering from a stroke suffered earlier this month.  610 WTVN first reported the news Thursday morning. Bruce, 84, is rehabbing at Dodd Hall at Ohio State. “He’s doing very well,” Lynn Bruce, Earle’s daughter, told The Columbus Dispatch. “Physically, he’s very strong. He’s just working on some balance stuff, which is kind of typical for someone his age.” MORE: OSU’s 50-50 QB battle | Best case, worst case | OSU top program since 2000 Ohio State coach Urban Meyer served as an assistant coach for Bruce at both Ohio State and Colorado State.  Bruce succeeded Woody Hayes at Ohio State and coached the Buckeyes from 1979-87. He led the Buckeyes to four Big Ten championships.  Bruce was fired during before the Michigan game at the end of the 1987 season. Ohio State players wore headbands that said “Earle” and upset the Wolverines 23-20 in Ann Arbor.  Bruce continues to be a beloved figure in the Columbus area.
