Best case/worst case: Ohio State Buckeyes

Our latest series rolls along with the Ohio State Buckeyes.

For those not familiar with this series, these are not predictions. Rather, they’re meant to offer a reasonable ceiling and floor for each team. And we try to have a little fun with the narratives, so don’t take the details too seriously.

Best case: If dodging confetti ever gets old, Ohio State certainly hasn’t reached that point yet after celebrating through another shower of it and throwing itself another championship party in 2015.

There was a difference in the mood this time for the Buckeyes, more relief than pure joy as compared to the first go-around. After all the months of high expectations, speculation about their place in history and the endless talk about the challenge of repeating, the sense of achievement as the favorite was different than it was the underdog.

The smiles were just as big, though. And the trophy looked exactly the same, passed around to a bunch of familiar faces who had claimed it the year before.

Most of the players were now getting ready to head to the NFL a bit early, with defensive end Joey Bosa, linebacker Darron Lee, running back Ezekiel Elliott, quarterback Cardale Jones and safety Vonn Bell all ready to pack up on campus and move on after playing such crucial roles in the back-to-back title campaigns. And in making it look so easy to navigate the schedule without a loss, all of their draft stocks had soared into the first round.
