I’ve decided to switch up the format this season because, quite frankly, I was sick and tired of doing it the old way. No. 1 OHIO STATE at VIRGINIA TECH Where: Lane Stadium, Blacksburg (65,632) When: 8 p.m., Monday TV: ESPN Records (last year): Ohio State 14-1, 8-0 Big Ten; Virginia Tech 7-6, 3-5 ACC Series: Hokies lead 1-0 Last meeting: Virginia Tech won 35-21 last year in Columbus Line: Ohio State by 14 MATCHUPS TO WATCH Ohio State receiver Michael Thomas vs. Virginia Tech cornerback Kendall Fuller: I wouldn’t expect them to be matched up all night, since the Hokies are usually pretty strict about Fuller being on the boundary, regardless of the receiver. But when they are paired up, it’s a matchup of a couple of guys projected to be first-round draft picks next year if they go pro. Thomas, who is Keyshawn Johnson’s nephew, led the Buckeyes with 54 catches, racking up 799 yards and nine touchdowns last season. He had a 53-yard touchdown in last year’s game when he got past a limited Brandon Facyson on a quick slant. Fuller, meanwhile, is coming off an All-America sophomore season. He’s Tech’s most complete defensive back in years and, though he doesn’t necessarily lock down one side of the field, he’ll be Tech’s best bet at shutting down Thomas. …
