College football preview: No.1 Ohio State Buckeyes vs Virginia Tech Hokies

The No.1 Ohio State Buckeyes start the defense of their national championship against the upset minded Virginia Tech Hokies on Monday. Normally, the No.1 defending champion doesn’t have much to prove when the season starts, but the Buckeyes are in the unique position of trying to avenge their only loss last season, while trying to find their quarterback. Despite the Buckeyes’ dominance as 2014 progressed, both teams know the Hokies are capable of pulling off the home victory again. The moment Cardale Jones decided to forego the 2015 NFL Draft, the Buckeyes were prepared for an intriguing quarterback competition. If Urban Meyer’s silence on the starting quarterback is any indication, the Buckeyes likely planning to play Jones as well as J.T. Barrett in the opener. However, neither quarterback is particularly interested in splitting time. Barrett would love to get a measure of redemption against the Hokies. In only his second start as the Buckeyes’ quarterback, the Virginia Tech defense forced Barrett into three interceptions, including the game clinching touchdown as Ohio State was trying to tie the score. …
