College Football Week 1 Breakdown

In the premiere game of the first week of college football, a highly touted rematch between the reigning champion Ohio State Buckeyes and the Virginia Tech Hokies eased the transition into week two, as viewers were treated to an intriguing game on Monday night. The Hokies delivered the only loss to the future champion of the inaugural playoff early in the season last year, 35-21, in front of the Buckeyes home crowd. Now, the game being held in Blacksburg, Virginia, Frank Beamer and the Hokies were unable to reciprocate their success against Ohio State last year. Virginia Tech came into the game led by former Texas Tech QB and transfer Michael Brewer. Brewer had an outstanding game last year, besting a Heisman hopeful in J.T. Barrett, throwing for 199 yards, completing 23-36 passing, while throwing a pair of both touchdowns and interceptions. However, he didn’t have nearly the same success against a season Ohio State defense, and left the game with an apparent shoulder injury. It was later reported during the game that it X-rays revealed a fractured collarbone, and Brewer could have shoulder surgery as early as tomorrow. Defensive Coordinator Bud Foster rolled out a defense led by All American cornerback Kendall Fuller, but were unable to stifle Urban Meyer and the ever so talented Buckeye offense. …
