The 2015 NCAA football season kicked off this week, and culminated with a bang on Monday night, as the defending national champion, and number one team in the country, Ohio State Buckeyes rolled into Blacksburg, Virginia, and rolled out with a stellar win over the Virginia Tech Hokies. One of the biggest questions in college football heading into this season was who would start at QB for the Buckeyes? Former star signal-caller Braxton Miller (who missed all of last year due to a shoulder injury) whom claimed the Big Ten offensive player of the year honors in 2012 and 2013, or Cardale Jones, the young gun who helped lead the Buckeyes through the inaugural College Football Playoffs to a National Championship just eight months ago? Buckeye coach Urban Meyer once again proved his genius by getting both players on the field at the same time. Jones got the nod as the starting QB, while Miller played wide receiver in the thrilling primetime game. Clearly this has been a tandem Ohio State has been nurturing throughout spring and summer practices, and boy did it show. Miller contributed to the win at WR with a spectacular 54 yard TD catch, as well as an electrifying 53 yard TD run. Jones picked up where he left off in last years National Championship win by adding two touchdowns through the air, and one via his youthful legs on the ground. Avenging the one blemish on their resume last year, a 35-21 home loss to Virginia Tech, the Buckeyes broke Hokie hearts by coming into Blacksburg, one of the most hostile environments in college football, and putting on an offensive display with their embarrassment of riches on the offensive side of the ball. That coach Meyer could convince an incredibly successful and established QB like Miller to forgo the NFL and to return to college, only to switch positions, is an incredible achievement in itself. That Miller could return to the national stage and put on a show like this in his first game out in that new position, is a testament to not only the skill and raw talent he possesses, but the hard work that Miller was clearly putting in behind closed doors. Ohio State ended the first week of the college football season with an exclamation point. …
