Ohio State Football game recap: Virginia Tech

The Ohio State Buckeyes have begun their title defense with a resounding victory over Virginia Tech, defeating the Hokies 42-24. The game had been circled as a problem matchup for the Buckeyes ever since Frank Beamer’s squad upset OSU 35-21 last year in Columbus. That was the lone loss for Ohio State football during last year’s championship season and ever since Urban Meyer and the buckeyes have been out for revenge. Quarterback questions finally answered? There were two dominant storylines for the Buckeyes heading into Monday night’s game; how effective would Braxton Miller be? (more on that later), and who would be named the starting QB? When J.T. Barrett was named a team captain during summer camp, many (including myself) saw it as an indicator of who would be running the offense in 2015. Leading up to the game Urban Meyer refused to name the starter and according to sources, including Cardale Jones, the players weren’t even told before the first offensive huddle. Jones said after the game that as the defense wrapped up their first stint on the field and the offense came together in a huddle, he was informed by a coach that he would be the starter after he started walking back towards the sideline. Both Barrett and Jones were seen in that huddle and if this is the case, it must’ve been a tough blow for Barrett. …
