After three years at quarterback, Miller suffered a pair of shoulder injuries that prevented him from playing in Ohio State’s run to the National Championship last season. In Miller’s absence, redshirt freshman J.T. Barrett played at a Heisman Trophy candidate level until a broken ankle against Michigan ended his season prematurely. Then, Cleveland native Cardale Jones led the Buckeyes to victories over Wisconsin in the Big Ten Championship Game, Alabama in the Sugar Bowl semifinal and lastly, Oregon in the College Football Playoff National Championship Game. With a multitude of talent at quarterback, Miller elected to switch to wide receiver for his senior season and promptly won the Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week Award after he rushed for 62 yards and one touchdown and caught two passes for 78 yards with a score in a 42-24 win over the Virginia Tech Hokies in the season opener Monday night. “I love Braxton Miller,” Buckeyes coach Urban Meyer said after the win over Virginia Tech. “When you have selflessness, you make a lot of decisions as you have to and he did it for the best interest of his team and Ohio State, and when I think about that, it makes you feel good. I love that kid, man.
