Ohio State: Duke transfer Jack Willoughby kicks first FG as he competes for job

COLUMBUS — Jack Willoughby isn’t used to such attention. The first-year kicker for Ohio State scanned the crowd of 20-some media members crammed around him earlier this week and admitted he had never had so many people wonder what was on his mind. “No, but I have never kicked a field goal, either,” Willoughby admitted. He wasn’t kidding. Advertisement Willoughby is in his fifth year of college football, having transferred to Ohio State after four years at Duke, where he double-majored in economics and statistics. Yet his 20-yard field goal in the third quarter of the Buckeyes’ 38-0 win over Hawaii was his first field goal. Ever. For four years, Willoughby only kicked off at Duke. But after earning his degrees, he chose to play his final year — without transfer penalty — somewhere else.
