Do The Ohio State Buckeyes Have Too Much Talent?

Trevor Ruszkowski-USA TODAY Sports It seems quite farfetched to say that any team could have too much talent, but this year’s Ohio State Buckeyes squad is so stacked with playmakers that they aren’t your typical college football team. As the college football landscape prepared for fall camp just two months ago, not only were experts tabbing the Buckeyes as front runners to win the National Championship for a second consecutive year, but they also penciled several of Urban Meyer’s players atop their Heisman Trophy candidates lists. At the quarterback position, the Buckeyes are loaded even after senior Braxton Miller switched to h-back. With J.T. Barrett and Cardale Jones both showcasing plenty of ability in 2015, Meyer was certainly in a win-win situation with whomever he selected to be his starter against the Virginia Tech Hokies in Week 1. Even when all three were playing the same position, experts had them all on the Heisman watch list simply because they’re all capable of being the best players in the country at the quarterback position. Now there’s just two quarterbacks, one h-back and, oh by the way, a running back in Ezekiel Elliot that is atop the Heisman watch list. After running for at least 200 yards in the Buckeyes’ last three games a season ago, he’s without question the best running back in college football and might be Ohio State’s best player. His breakaway speed combined with his hard-hitting power makes him a back that can run between the tackles, but can also turn the corner on a stretch play. As the days counted down to Ohio State’s first game against the Hokies, Meyer told reporters that his best players will play, including both Barrett and Jones at the quarterback position. …
