Michigan State Football: Spartans #2 in latest AP Poll

The Michigan State football team has had an awfully good start to the 2015 campaign, and are now just one win away from the first clean slate in September in the past five seasons. It began with a week one win on the road over a formidable Western Michigan side in Kalamazoo Mich, which took place as a part of a “celebrate the state” initiative set up by Mark Hollis back in 2009. Mark Dantonio has built his Michigan State Spartans into one of the most feared teams in the country Week two saw the fifth ranked Spartans knock off the seventh ranked Oregon Ducks on national television, in front of better than 300 recruits, as it was the highlighted game on ESPN College Gameday. This past weekend the Spartans hosted a service academy for the first time in its history. The Spartans looked good at first, not so good at the end, but did enough to move up in the eyes of many voters. The Michigan State Spartans are now ranked #2 in the AP Poll (#3 in the coaches poll) and received seven of the potential 61 first place votes — Ohio State (42) Ole Miss (11) LSU (1). Michigan State hasn’t been ranked in the top two since 1966 — their last national championship. While this doesn’t ensure the Spartans a national title — or even appear in the playoff for that matter — it does make what was already an intriguing matchup in the Big Ten, all the more so. The Spartans travel to Columbus on Nov. 21 to take on the currently top ranked Ohio State Buckeyes.
