Should Ole Miss be the No. 1 team over Ohio State?

Ole Miss went into Tuscaloosa and beat No. 2 Alabama over the weekend, upsetting the Crimson Tide by taking shots downfield and punishing them with their physical defensive front. This moves the Rebels to 3-0 and saw them leap to 5th place in the USA TODAY Sports Amway Coaches Poll.

When I spoke with SEC Network’s Jesse Palmer on the FTW Podcast on Tuesday, however, he said he believed Ole Miss was the No. 1 team in the nation this week.

It’s an interesting take and one worth considering. Has Ole Miss put together a more impressive season so far than Ohio State? If they have, does that warrant the No. 1 spot? Let’s take a look at the argument.

Ole Miss has a better signature victory

Ohio State going to Virginia Tech and winning a huge statement game was important, especially a year after their last matchup, when the Hokies beat Ohio State for its only loss of its national championship season. Ohio State was missing a lot of key players, and still went into Blacksburg and stomped them, winning 42-24 and making it look easy, especially in the second half.
