Counterpoint: Big Ten won’t send any teams to College Football Playoffs

We’re far from the College Football Playoff, but a look at the rankings has Big Ten fans excited for the possibilities. Preseason consensus, No. 1 Ohio State, is now followed by a strong Michigan State squad at No. 2. If the playoff started today, the Big Ten would have two qualifiers, but they don’t start today. They start in January, and a whole heaping lot is going to change in the coming months. The Big Ten has two chances of getting two teams in the final four, slim and none, and slim is getting slimmer. First of all, there is just as good a chance neither of the above teams make it into the playoff as both are playing in January for a chance at the title. Neither team look that great and are the only two teams that could imaginably make a run. Ohio State has looked remarkably pedestrian as it struggles to make a solid decision at quarterback. Two ugly wins against directional schools (Northern Illinois and Western Michigan) are not going to get Ohio State the style points it will need if it does falter and lose a game…
